Tara Bissett
Actor | Artist | Creative Storyteller

Tara Bissett is a Canadian multidisciplinary artist whose creative work bridges visual arts, acting, singing, writing and filmmaking. With a diverse background that spans fine arts, graphic design, video editing, performance, and writing, Tara brings a uniquely flexible and richly layered approach to her work through TLB Art & Design.

Tara holds a BFA and MA in Art Education, both from Concordia University in Montreal. She later completed a Master of Science in Applied Creativity and Innovation from the renowned International Center for Studies in Creativity at SUNY Buffalo. This blend of formal art training, performance, music, writing and applied creative thinking has shaped her ability to weave together disciplines and bring thoughtful, joyful design to life. Tara’s deep understanding of the creative process, combined with her love of childlike wonder has fostered a lasting love and respect for children's art — the freedom, playfulness, and honesty in their marks continue to inspire much of her own work.

Tara’s artistic style is vibrant, whimsical, and deeply human. She loves being introduced to, and getting to know new techniques, mediums and tools of the trade, but holds fast to this: not one drop or pixel of the artwork I create is AI-generated.

Tara embraces digital brushes and pencils for some pieces, but always ensures that her hand is the driving force behind every element. Much of her work is made out in the real world — painting, drawing, working with textiles or clay — and is sometimes combined with digital techniques, but never outsourced to AI.

Across all her work, flexibility is a core value. Whether guiding watercolour paint, shaping a narrative in her writing, or performing on stage, Tara believes in staying open to where the creative process will lead. “Flexibility was something my grandparents instilled in us early on,” she shares. “It’s not just a mindset — it’s a practice.” *See her blog post on Flexibility in the Playground section from the menu above

In parallel to her visual art, Tara has cultivated a successful acting career with roles in theatre, film, television, and voiceover. Known for her versatility, she moves easily between drama, comedy and musical theatre bringing emotional depth and magnetic presence to her performances. She wrote, co-produced, and starred in the internationally recognized short film Roed, which has earned awards on the festival circuit for its bold storytelling and social impact.

In the early 2000s, Tara also ran Tara Bissett Functional Art, a studio that focused on hand-painted and etched wood decor and giftware, successfully showing and selling her work across North America and internationally, including at Toronto’s One of a Kind show. One of her most meaningful exhibitions was Kindred Threads, a two-woman show with her mother, accomplished fibre artist, Kathy Bissett, at a Canadian National Historic Site, the Joseph Schneider Haus in Kitchener, Ontario.

Today, through TLB Art & Design, Tara continues to create original hand-drawn and hand-crafted art, playful character illustrations, personalized pattern designs, and video editing projects. Her work is known for its joyful, thoughtful spirit and its handcrafted integrity.

Whether you’re looking for whimsical gifts, custom designs, or creative collaborations, Tara brings a depth of experience, an artist’s hand, and a storyteller’s heart to every project.

Tara lives in Montreal with her incredible husband, magical daughter and sweet Billy the cat. She is a musical theatre geek through and through. In particular she loves all things Ozian, and CANNOT wait for Wicked: For Good to come out this November!
